Paving the way for a better environment
Bantay Kalikasan (Nature Watch), ABS-CBN Foundation's
environmental arm, It was launched to serve as a catalyst in
addressing the concern over the worsening state of the Philippine
environment characterized by air and water pollution, denudation of
forests, irresponsible waste disposal and their life-threatening
effects.
To date, Bantay Kalikasan has six projects: Save the La Mesa
Watershed Project which consists of the La Mesa Eco-Park and La Mesa
Nature Reserve, BK Environmental Hotline, Bantay Baterya, Bantay
Langis, and the campaign for No to Mining in Palawan
- Save the La Mesa Watershed Project Planted
1,552 has. Out of 1,777 has. Target (87% completed) Reintroduced 82
indigenous tree species. At least 400,000 people visits La Mesa
Ecopark every year since 2009.
- Ipo Watershed Management Project Planted 185
has out of the 560 has. Target. (33% accomplished) Propagated and
prepared for planting 170,000 seedlings of 41 tree species
- Bantay Baterya 280,688.89 kgs . of lead acid
batteries was collected which prevented environmental pollution and
the spread of long term illnesses (mental retardation among kids,
sterility, brain damage and internal diseases).
- Bantay Langis 158, 384.06 liters of used oil
was prevented from polluting our water systems and killing marine
biodiversity.
